How this web app handles your data

Timeline JSON, selected photos and optional audio are read on your device to create your video. This site does not receive those file contents.

Files you select

Timeline Visualizer parses the Google Maps Timeline JSON, photos, and optional music you select in your browser. Their file contents, individual coordinates, image bytes and generated videos are not uploaded to this site for processing. Reloading clears the current working session.

Map tile requests

All map requests start only after you accept the map consent notice in the relevant tool. The video tool uses CARTO when a CARTO key is configured; otherwise, it uses OpenFreeMap vector tiles. After consent, Timeline Viewer and Photo Map request map tiles from CARTO, with a configured CARTO key included when available. Each provider receives tile coordinates for the requested areas and ordinary network information, including your IP address, so the areas being viewed may be inferred. Map requests never include your source Timeline files, photos, or audio. Map attribution is shown in the application and exports. The Countries and States maps use geographic boundaries bundled with this site and do not request external map tiles.

Sharing a selected map

The Countries and States maps can place selected place IDs in the page URL when you copy a share link. The link contains those selections, but never the source photo or Timeline files. Anyone who receives the link can see the selected places.

Pro activation

When you choose to activate Pro, the key you enter and a random device ID are sent to this site's activation API and then Dodo Payments to verify your license and enforce the activation limit. The device ID, key and activation instance ID are stored in your browser's local storage so Pro can be restored after a reload. Dodo Payments handles checkout and payment details.

Site requests

The hosting provider receives ordinary requests for static files and may keep access logs. The app's service worker may cache static code and map data assets on your device, but it does not persist your Timeline file, source photos, source music, or generated video. This version does not include advertising or behavior analytics.
